Frequently Asked Questions

Any Sir Winston Churchill student can join SWC Robotics. Everyone's contribution is welcome.

There are many roles that you can fill as part of our team. If you're a hardware-focused STEM student you may wish to be a robot designer or builder. If coding, or math, is your focus then perhaps you can explore being a programmer. Students interested in media, arts, or business might want to be involved in club promotions or communications. You can try different things until you find what you enjoy most.

No! We encourage everyone to join the team so that we can learn together. Our focus in on learning, while having fun, first.

The club currently meets in the cafeteria after school on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. While we'd love to see you at every meeting, it's not mandatory. You should still join the team even if you can't make it every day we meet.

History of SWC Robotics

  • Sir Winston Churchill Robotics began in 2007 with 8 students and one teacher.
    That year, their robot reached the World Championships in Atlanta, USA.
  • In 2008, the team grew to 15 students and earned a bronze medal at Worlds in Dallas, USA.
  • By 2009, success brought the team up to 40 students, and they sent three robots to Worlds.
  • In 2010, the team expanded to 55 students and qualified one robot for the World Championship in Orlando, USA.
  • In 2017, the team qualified three robots to Worlds.
  • In 2021, the team had nearly 45 students and they qualified all five of their robots for provincials.
    That year, they made it to the semi-finals.
  • In 2026, after a hiatus, we are working to regrow the team for future Vex Robotics competitions, and we want you to join us!
